What is this blog about?

What is this blog about? It started as a sort of journal about the journey I thought I was taking - one of weight loss. You see, my wife inspired me to finally change my ways, get off the couch and start working on being healthy. I'm selling it short, but that's the gist of it. In any case, the efforts I made to lose weight resulted in developing a love for fitness, and I've decided to carry on with it.

Here at last is my story. . .

Feeling Good

6 days last week - hell yeah.  Changing things up - more weight on resistance days, more resistance on cardio days.  No bad food days last week.  I'm totally looking forward to tonight - I hope i'm going to see some good numbers.

I have been thinking pretty hard lately about changing the goal.  I've started tracking a new point of measurement, BMI.  BMI is Body Mass Index and is a general measurement of height to weight proportion.  It's by no means a hard and fast rule of "if you're in the green zone, you're fit" because it can't consider things like my frame or musculature, but it's an average measure of height to weight proportion which is pretty decent.  Plus it's another graph I can watch myself moving in the right direction on, which feels good  :-)

Consider the chart to the left.  According to that, I only JUST moved from the Obese category to the Overweight category.  In order to go from Overweight to Normal, I'll need to adjust my target by an additional 5 pounds.  5 lousy pounds. . .yeah, I can do that.

In case you're wondering what your BMI is the formula is pretty simple:

(Weight (pounds) / (Height (inches) * Height (inches))) * 703

I'm trying to find other good things to measure that might help provide a more rounded approach to "how healthy am I"?  Lean Body Mass?  Resting Heart Rate?  I like the simple things that mean I don't have to do any extra work.  I'd be interested to hear about any others that anyone knows about.
