What is this blog about?

What is this blog about? It started as a sort of journal about the journey I thought I was taking - one of weight loss. You see, my wife inspired me to finally change my ways, get off the couch and start working on being healthy. I'm selling it short, but that's the gist of it. In any case, the efforts I made to lose weight resulted in developing a love for fitness, and I've decided to carry on with it.

Here at last is my story. . .

Misleading (-4#)

The title says it all, the 4 pound loss is kind of misleading.  I actually was down another 2 pounds before I left for my vacation over the 4th, but I didn't report it.  This is my catchup report.  It'll skew some of my numbers some, but not bad so I won't worry about it.  At least i'm caught back up.

Also, I *DID* weigh in last week as planned - I was actually down a pound.  Today takes that pound plus the pound I lost over the weekend and brings me to 2.  All in all, that's a win for me.  Consider I had zero exercise except the dunes and a day swimming at the beach, and then also consider my terrible diet.  I expected to gain, not lose - any loss at all is definitely a win.

So now I have nothing planned until the end of August.  No trips, no vacations, no "free" weekends. . .nothing.  Just nose to the grindstone, working on taking my 62% as far up as I can.  It feels like things are really progressing for me.  We went shopping for some new clothes and i'm already into a 38 waist.  Coming from a 44, that's pretty good.  I keep trying to figure out if weight lost will have more or less impact on my clothing.  It's expensive having to buy everything all new, and I really need to.  While on vacation I could barely tie up my swimsuit because it was too big.  I just keep thinking like this:

10 pounds of fat @ X thickness / 44" waist != 10 pounds of fat @ X thickness / 38" waist

Note that the X is arbitrary - it just has to be the same in both sides.  I have no way to validate this.  It feels right, but I could be wrong.  I just hate the idea of buying new clothes now and having to replace those in 6 months when I'm done losing and getting into a steady state.

So I was reading on a site that a male who is 6'1" should ideally weigh about 165.  I lol'd.  That's ridiculous - I don't know any male over 5'6" who weighs that.  I'm totally considering making it my goal.
